mast epoxy repair and varnish
(it's a lovely light hollow mast -- much lighter than the caber on the dabber!)
i was hoping to simply cleanup and revarnish, but the glue was failing a little towards the foot (6-9 inches)
i had ordered some gorilla wood glue to try (not the standard gorilla glue), but couldn't wait for it to arrive so used epoxy -- which has got to be better.
(I only used the jubilee clips (3) to clamp it when epoxied!) and used a cut up plastic milk carton rectangle to imbibe the epoxy into the gap, after cleaning out old glue with sandpaper (both sides)
have used epifanes to varnish and so have a streaky zebra mast as although i used a cabinet scraper and sandpaper (120), i left some of the established varnish (couldn't bring myself to heat gun it off)
am now wondering whether there is a 'colored varnish' i could add which will make the mast a bit more uniform in appearance (perhaps deks olje no 2?)
used corded scrapwood wedges on the trestles to stabilise the mast
started the engine but no water from telltale, so impeller/service will have to be done too)
